After a two-year search, the Reverend Lane A. Hensley joined our congregation in 2003. Under his leadership, the church expanded its presence via our first website. He was also the first police chaplain for the city of Palos Park. During Rev. Hensley’s tenure, we initiated a relationship with our companion diocese in S.E. Mexico, most notably through the development of a long-term relationship with La Transfiguración, in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. Fr. Lane accepted a call to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, CA in 2010.
Transfiguration called the Reverend Nicholas Romans to join our congregation in 2012. He helped our church family to grow in joy and love for one another and to engage more deeply in the life of the church and its mission. Fr. Nicholas served Transfiguration until 2017
Following a one-year search, we welcomed the Reverend Annette C. Mayer from Fort Worth, TX, as our priest-in-charge in March of 2018. Two years into her tenure, Rev. Annette navigated us through the COVID pandemic, when parishioners were not allowed to return to church. Giving parishioners the opportunity to stay connected, she began broadcasting Sunday services on Facebook Live, which continues to this day. On-line Zoom allowed us to continue our coffee hour fellowship and offer Bible Study. She expanded our pastoral lay ministries to create the role of Eucharistic Visitors, bringing communion to our homebound parishioners. We installed our new lighted church sign in 2019, which allows us to be more visible in the community. Blessed with her leadership and experience, she led us in our faith journey until her retirement in March of 2024.
In November of 2024, Transfiguration welcomed the Reverend Hunter Farrow as our priest-in-charge. In 2025, Transfiguration celebrated its 75th anniversary with a whole year of events. We had a "through the decades" themed luncheon to kick things off, a festival eucharist, and a dinner dance, and those were just the big events. Our Parish Life committee peppered smaller events throughout the entire year, so the celebration never stopped. 2025 was also a hard year for the parish, as we had a truck drive through the daycare section of our building when the driver had a medical incident. By the grace of God, while there were injuries, there were no fatalities. The injuries have healed, and things are slowly getting back to normal. In the midst of these challenges, the congregation came together and was incredibly supportive. We are looking forward to a slightly less eventful 2026, but that does not mean we are slowing down. Transfiguration continues to grow in new faces and new opportunities to plug into worship and life together. In this next season of the life of the parish, we hope to become more present out in the community. We are looking forward to what God has in store for us here at Transfiguration.
